Greece Profile

Greece is a country in Southeastern Europe and is a major tourist destination.  The total land mass is over 130,000 square kilometers and consists of a large mainland, a peninsula and a number of small islands.  Greece has access to the Ionian Sea, south of the Mediterranean Sea and the east of Aegean Sea.  The climate in Greece consists of Mediterranean, Alpine and temperate climates that generally contain wet winters and hot, dry summers.

The Greek Economic Crisis has shaped Greece’s social, economic and political history in the past two decades.  Greece in the past, and now presently has demonstrated irresponsible spending and in result, unable to repay debts.   It began by the Greek government increasing the size of the country’s payroll, which eventually lead to one in five working age people to hold a government job.  In 2010, European Union countries funded Greece 110 billion Euro with the condition that Greece practices deep Government spending cuts and wage lowering.  The wage lowering has also lead to a major unemployment rate, which has affected Greece significantly.
